1856, May 6, Pope County, Arkansas:  Marriage of  Sarah Ann ("Sallie") Holmes (age 22, b. 1834)  & John Pryor Yates (age 24, b. 1832) 
1857-1862 (6 years time), Laurel, North Fork Township
(now Simpson Township), Pope County, Arkansas:  Sarah Ann ("Sallie") Holmes & John Pryor Yates had their 4 children -- from Sarah Ann & John Pryor's ages   23 & 25  to  29 & 31:

1.  1857, May:  Gabriel ("Gabe") S. Yates 
2.  1861, Oct 12:  Mary Jane Yates 
3.  1862, July 10:  Mallie Malvinia Yates 
4.  1863, Sept:  Elijah ("Lige") M. Yates 

:  Tragic Civil War death of John Pryor Yates, age 32

John Pryor Yates ("Old Pry") was in the Confederate army, and upon returning home was bushwhacked by Union sympathizers and killed.

K Kennedy's compilation on rootsweb:  "COMPANY E, 17TH (LEMOYNE'S) ARKANSAS INFANTRY REGIMENT, CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA.    YATES, JOHN P. Pvt - Enl 21 Dec 1861 at Dardanelle, AR. Died 8 Apr 1862 at Jacksonport, AR." 
 [  LL note:   Reports of his death date vary among the years 1862- 1864. ]

September 26, Laurel, North Fork Township (now Simpson Township) Pope County, Arkansas:  2nd Marriage for Sarah Ann (Sallie) Holmes (age 31, 1834-1895):  to Gabriel S. Yates (age 45, 1820-1881) -- [ older brother of  her 1st husband, John Pryor Yates (1832-1864) ].

1866-18__, Pope Co., Arkansas:  Sarah Ann (Sallie) Holmes & Gabriel S. Yates had  6 children -- from Sarah Ann & Gabriel's ages   32 & 46   to   __  & __  -- giving Sarah Ann Holmes Yates a total of 10 children with those 2 Yates brothers:

1881,  Pope County, Arkansas:  Death of  Gabriel S. "Gabe" Yates, age 61  (1820

On  Dec 14, 1881, Gabriel S. ("Gabe") Yates died in Pope County Arkansas, age 61 (b. Dec.31, 1820 in Tennessee.)

From the junction of Highways 27 and 164 in Scottsville:
-  Go NORTH on 164 for 5.1 miles.
-  Turn LEFT onto Forest Service Road # 1310
-  Go NORTH for 13.3 miles to an old road going north from where 1310 turns east.
-  Get out of vehicle
-  Walk north on this old road for about 1/8 mile.
- Cemetery located just north of the old Jones house. Watch for open dug well.

- There are approximately 130 graves in this cemetery with only two of them marked. (Later found two with carving on rocks.)

At the time of Gabriel S Yates' death, his wife Sarah Ann Holmes Yates was 47, and their 6 children ranged from only a few years old on up to John Pryor "Young Pry," age 15.  

Sarah Ann's 4 children from her 1st marriage with Gabe's brother, John Pryor  Yates, were ages 18-24.

Sarah Ann Holmes Yates continued living and at age 59, went along in the large Holmes - Yates - Brown Clan's
1893 wagon train from Arkansas to Oklahoma

2-1/2 years' time:  Sarah Ann Holmes Yates lived in Comanche,  Oklahoma.

1895, Nov 2, Comanche, Oklahoma:  Death of Sarah Ann Holmes Yates, age 65 (1834-1895).  
She is buried in the Comanche cemetery, where her tombstone reads, "
aged 60 yrs  7 mos   25 days."
